Marie was born in France and grew up in Amsterdam. She started studying classical piano at the age of four and singing at the age of 10. With both her parents career artists, Marie experienced the financial and mental struggles of being an artist first hand, but as soon as she graduated from university, she decided to follow her calling. She traveled to New York, where some of her best love songs were born, and moved to Lisbon to take opera lessons under the guidance of soprano singer Conceicao Seabra Galante and her baritone husband Nuno Vilallonga.
